Food Review: The Sushi Bar

Introducing my favourite Japanese restaurant!

I've been to The Sushi Bar for about 5 times, and each time the quality never disappoints.
Eh the price has been rising, but I think it's still reasonable for the freshness of the ingredients and the om nom nom.

Menu !

For starters:

Chawanmushi - $5.60
I'm quite nitpicky with my chawanmushi, but this is a pass!
Smooth and no strong eggy taste. Its not too firm either, with just enough soup.

I dont like the tobiko roe though, because it spoils the texture.

Scallop Mentaiyaki - $13.90
I dont usually love scallops (or seafood of any kind actually), but this is an exception.

Scallops are thinly sliced and drizzled with light seasoning.
Addition of mentaiko sauce and slight torching.. Nommmms.

Salmon Aburi Roll - $14.90
Another favourite of mine!
Basically anything with mentaiko sauce is bound to be my favourite LOL.

Inside the roll is cucumber and crab meat mayonnaise,
and wrapping them are slices of fresh salmon, topped with mentaiko sauce and ikura roe.
Torched.

NOMS.

This is the basic roll, and there are soft shell crab/ebi fry versions.
The ebi fry version is quite nice too, because it provides a crunchy texture coupled with the smooth salmon.

Mains:

Basic Chirashi Don - $19.90
Pok's favourite!
There is salmon, tuna, hamachi (yellowtail), and ikura roe.

Did you know that chirashi don is actually a dish created to reduce wastage?
Chefs choose and slice premium cuts of sashimi, and the leftover chunks are used.

I can promise that this does not taste like leftovers, because they still taste super fresh!

There are normal and premium versions available too, which are sliced up nicely like usual sashimi.
Eh I've noticed that on weekends the basic don isn't available.. wonder why?

Wafu Spaghetti - $10.90
In other words, Mentaiko Spaghetti. HAHAH.
Their angel hair pasta is cooked al dente, and the creamy sauce coats every strand.
The tobiko roe isnt too fishy either.
My favourite!

Based on serving size, this dish alone isn't enough but it's impossible that you only order one dish here ;p

Tofu Cheesecake - $4.90
Very light and smooth, plus the crumbly digestive biscuit base.
Om nom nom.

If I had to pick 3 items (to save my wallet),
I'd pick the Scallop Mentaiyaki, Salmon Aburi and Wafu Spaghetti. :D

Highly recommended for those who love good quality Japanese food with a budget.
